Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find frequently asked questions about telehealth therapy with me.
How can you help me?
As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in VA and Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, I offer compassionate, non-judgmental guidance as we work together to help you make lasting positive changes. I strive to help you process your emotions and stressful life situations; learn research-based strategies so you can better navigate your feelings and current challenges; find solutions and relief; identify patterns holding you back; & develop knowledge, skills and strength that empower you to feel more confident and capable.
Do I really need therapy?
If you have been struggling with your emotions, or a particular issue or life stressor for longer than a few weeks and it causes you distress, therapy could benefit you. Let’s have a free phone consultation to discuss more if you are unsure.
Do you take insurance?
I do. United HealthCare, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Oxford and Oscar Health.
Will Insurance cover my treatment?
Insurance coverage is dependent on the your policy's behavioral health coverage. I contract with a secure 3rd party billing agency that makes this process easy. You simply enter your insurance information and they determine if I can accept your insurance and give you an estimate of your co-pay. They handle all insurance and payments so that I can focus on your care.
You can also call your insurance company or check your insurance documents to determine this coverage. If uncertain, I advise checking your coverage for mental health benefits as well as any potential co-pay.
What are your fees for self-pay?
Rates for self-pay are $125.00 for a 53 minute therapy session. This is considered a “traditional therapy hour” and is standard practice.
At this time, I only accept credit card payments and these are billed through a secure 3rd party billing agency that handles all insurance and payments so that I can focus on your care.
Do you only offer online therapy or do you offer in-person therapy as well?
I only offer online therapy.
Can we do phone calls instead or are you video-based only?
I am video-based only.
What will it look like in sessions with you?
When you are in therapy with me, I strive to create a safe space where you can feel understood, accepted and supported. In the first session, we’ll review your standard paperwork and get to know each other. We’ll explore what brings you to therapy and discuss your goals, best hopes and desired outcomes through therapy.
Each subsequent session will be about an hour long and occur as frequently as once per week. I like to let you begin with anything that has been on your mind since the previous session or what feels most important to you. We then continue to address your goals and desired outcomes for therapy at each session. During sessions, I may offer education, strategies or coping skills for you to practice between sessions. You’ll have the choice to experiment with any suggestions I might offer.
How do I know if therapy will help me?
I cant promise or guarantee results in therapy. I will strive to do my best to support you and offer research- based strategies and skills. People who are ready for change and willing to try implementing therapy skills and concepts offered in session will generally get the most benefit from therapy. You get out what you put in!
Is online or in-person therapy best for me?
Whether you choose online or in-person therapy is ultimately up to you. Online therapy offers convenience and accessibility for many.
Online therapy is not appropriate for anyone who is at serious risk of harming themselves or others or is in imminent danger. If that is the case, please seek emergency services and /or call 911 immediately.
When in doubt if online or in-person therapy would be best for you, schedule a free consultation and we can discuss.
Is what I talk about kept private?
Yes, what we talk about is confidential. Although, as in all therapy, there are exceptions to confidentiality for professional therapists. We can discuss this more in a consultation.
What age must I be?
You need to be at least 18 years old. I provide services to adults.
What state must I be in to participate in therapy?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Virginia. I am not licensed to provide therapy to anyone residing or located outside of Virginia. Thus, you must be living AND located in Virginia during our telehealth session.
This sounds like it might be a good fit, what are the next steps?
1. You contact me to schedule a free 15-minute consultation phone call. During the call we briefly discuss your concerns and we determine if we are a good fit. You get to ask me any further questions you might have before moving forward.
2. If it seems to be a good fit, we schedule an initial therapy session. This session is video-based. I send you a packet of forms through email that includes standard consent forms and an intake form. These forms must be completed prior to the first session. I contract with a secure, HIPAA compliant online 3rd party billing agency that handles all insurance and payments so that I can focus on your care. You will receive an email from them and will need to create an account where you enter your insurance and payment information. This must be done before our first session.
3. We begin with our first session!
